High School Graduates

$21,000 worth of scholarships are awarded to graduates from 11 area high schools seeking to further their education. Criteria and guidelines are as follows:

JREC scholarships are awarded to each of the following schools as follows:

  • Three $1000 Scholarships:  Flambeau, Hayward, and LCO.
  • Two $1000 Scholarships:  Bruce, Gilman, Ladysmith, and Lake Holcombe.
  • One $1000 Scholarship:  Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Rib Lake, Stanley-Boyd, and Winter.

Criteria is as follows:

  • Graduate from one of the above listed local high schools in 2024.

  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of dependent student must presently be an active member of JREC and currently receive electric service.

  • Display average or above average academic records.

  • Family income should not be a deciding factor.

  • Display potential to successfully continue achievement in a post-secondary public or private college, university, junior college, or vocational school program, which will lead to an associate degree or one-year diploma.

  • Priority to be given to any student who has participated in the Youth Leadership Congress, or any youth program offered by JREC.    

An application for this scholarship can be obtained from your high school Guidance Counselor. Deadline is based on individual school requirements. Please see your Guidance Counselor for more details.

 

Homeschool Scholarship

Six $1000 Scholarships Awarded

Two $1000 scholarships to be awarded to graduating homeschooled students from each of the following areas:  Hayward, greater Jump River area, and Ladysmith.

Criteria is as follows:

  • Receive a homeschool diploma in 2024.

  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of dependent student must presently be an active member of JREC and currently receive electric service.

  • Display average or above average academic records.

  • Family income should not be a deciding factor.

  • Display potential to successfully continue achievement in a post-secondary public or private college, university, junior college, or vocational school program, which will lead to an associate degree or one-year diploma.

  • Priority to be given to any student who has participated in the Youth Leadership Congress, or any youth program offered by JREC.

Allen Beadles Memorial Scholarship

Non-traditional Scholarships - Two $1000 Scholarships Awarded

Non-traditional students seeking to further their education at a college or post-secondary institute can apply for this scholarship.  An application can be picked up at the Ladysmith office or see below. Once completed, please mail your application to PO Box 99, Ladysmith WI 54848. Deadline is June 15.

Criteria is as follows:

  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of dependent student or self must be an active member of JREC and currently receive electric service.

  • Student must have received their GED or high school diploma for a minimum of one year prior to applying for this scholarship.

  • Display average or above average academic records.

  • Family income should not be a deciding factor.

  • Display potential to successfully continue achievement in a post-secondary public or private college, university, junior college, or vocational school program, which will lead to an associate degree or one-year diploma.

  • Priority to be given to any applicant who has participated in the Youth Leadership Congress, or any youth program offered by JREC.

Charles Kagigebi Memorial Scholarship

Two $1000 Scholarships Awarded

A $1000 scholarships will be awarded to two non-traditional students who are attending Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University (LCOOU). All interested parties can apply for this scholarship by picking up an application at LCOOU or see below. Once completed, please mail or return the application to the Financial Aid Assistant at LCOOU. Deadline is based on school requirements.

Criteria is as follows:

  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of dependent student or self must be an active member of JREC and currently receive electric service.

  • Student must have received their GED or high school diploma for a minimum of one year prior to applying for this scholarship.

  • Display average or above average academic records.

  • Family income should not be a deciding factor.

  • Display potential to successfully continue achievement in a post-secondary public or private college, university, junior college, or vocational school program, which will lead to an associate degree or one-year diploma.

John Hirschfeld Jr. Memorial Lineworker Scholarship

Two $1000 Scholarships Awarded

Members wishing to enter a one-year Electric Power Distribution/Lineworker post-secondary school program can apply for this scholarship.

Non-traditional students and High School graduates from the following schools can apply:   Bruce, Flambeau, Gilman, Hayward, Ladysmith, Lake Holcombe, LCO, Rib Lake, Stanley-Boyd, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, and Winter.   

Criteria is as follows:

  • Applicant can be a high school graduating senior in 2024 from one of the 11 high schools listed above and whose parent(s) or legal guardians(s) are active members, or

  • Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of dependent student or self are an active member of JREC and currently receive electric service.

  • Display average or above average academic records.

  • Family income should not be a deciding factor.

  • Student must be entering a one-year Electric Power Distribution/Lineworker post-secondary school program.

  • Priority to be given to any student who has participated in the Youth Leadership Congress, or any youth program offered by JREC. 

All interested parties can apply for this scholarship by picking up an application at the Ladysmith office or see below. Once the application is completed, please mail to PO Box 99, Ladysmith WI 54848. Deadline is May 1.

APPLICATION

The Federated Youth Foundation, Inc. is now accepting applications for the fourth Charles Van Sickle Scholarship.  The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a pre-law or law student who has an interested in cooperative law.  The scholarship is made possible by an endowment established in 2013 to honor Wisconsin's renowned electric cooperative lobbyist and attorney, the late Charles Van Sickle.  

Eligibility requirements:

  • Pre-law or law students who reside in Wisconsin and have an interest in cooperative law; children and grandchildren of cooperatives, credit unions, or mutual insurance companies preferred
  • Have not been awarded this scholarship before
  • Minimum cumulative grade point of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale

Applicants will be judged on leadership, scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, personal/life goals.  To be eligible, all areas of the application form must be filled out and submitted together.

To be considered, applicants should submit the required application to the Federated Youth Foundation office no later than April 1, 2024.
