EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

YLC to be held July 16–18, 2024 at UW-Stout

WHAT IS IT? The YLC is a three-day conference held at UW-Stout. Students attend throughout the state and are sponsored by Wisconsin cooperatives. Activities focus on maximizing leadership potential, understanding cooperatives and co-op governance, effective communication methods, and turning mistakes into stepping stones for success.  Students leave this event understanding what it takes to be a great leader and how they can positively impact their peers, schools, and communities.  

Past YLC students have described this conference as having a lot of fun activities and one that provides a great opportunity to meet a lot of cool people and build friendships and leadership skills that will last a lifetime. This conference provides a forum for teens to discuss issues and solutions important to them.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND?  Sophomore, junior, or senior's who live within JREC's service area. All fees for this conference are taken care of by Jump River Electric Cooperative. 

WHAT DOES IT COST?  All costs are covered by JREC, including transportation to and from UW-Stout.  The only money you will need would be for snacks or purchases made at the University gift shop.

APPLICATION DEADLINE is May 30, 2024.  Deadlines may vary by school. 

HOW IS THIS CONFERENCE UNIQUE?  Students stay on a college campus and experience a college environment.  Participating students elect a six-member YLC Youth Board who will help plan the following year's Leadership Conference. This same students have the opportunity to attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour in Washington, DC. the following June with expenses paid by JREC.

EARN MONEY FOR COLLEGE.  All students who attend are able to participate in WECA's annual essay contest.  The contest consist of writing on co-op oriented subjects, competed for the chance to win one of three scholarships of $1000, $500, and $250, redeemable at any accredited post-secondary educational institution in the U.S.
